Prior to the establishment of the garden, the Gold Coast Government had built a sanatorium at the site for convalescing Government officials in 1875. In 1889, during the Governorship of his Excellency, Sir W. Brandford-Griffith, K.G.M.G., a few hectares of land was cleared in the vicinity of the sanatorium to begin the Botanical Department. The clearing was under the supervision of a German carpenter serving with the Basel Mission. In 1890, Mr. William Crowther, a student from the Royal Botanic Garden, Kew, arrived in the Gold Coast as the first Curator of the Botanic Garden. By 1908, 64.8 hectares of land had been cultivated and plots for selected economic plants, botanical specimens and decorative plants had been established.

With the increasing side effect from the orthodox medicine, more and more people are turning to the traditional plant medicine.

About sixty per cent of Ghanaians depend on plant medicine; in view of this the Mampong center for scientific research into plant medicine was established to research into medicinal values of tropical plants. Learn more about various plant medicines during a tour of this great facility.

We hope nothing will come between you and your vacation. Should you need to cancel, however, your cancellation must be in writing by email. It will be effective on the date of receipt. Cancellation charges, per person, base upon the date of the cancellation, are as follows:

120 -90 days 10% of land

89-60 days 35% of land

59 - 30 days 50% of land

Less than 30 days 100% of land

No Show 100% of land

Children Policy

Children below the age of 6 years would enjoy 50% discount for all entrance fees only to parks, museums and all places where an entrance fee is charged.

Although every effort will be made to keep the itinerary and hotels as they are shown in the packages, P.J Travel & Tours reserves the right to substitute the itinerary hotels. In such cases, we will do everything that we can to make sure the locations visited, and/or the excursions taken and the hotels offered are to the ones originally planned.

Family accommodation rates are available upon request. A couple and two (2) children. The children ages should be between 0 to 12 years old. Extra bed in the room, rates are also available upon request.
